Sustainable has never felt so good

The Beach is all about sustainable lifestyle and we are forever on the look out for Earth friendly products that support a healthy, happy planet so when we came across the luxurious world of Cariloha bamboo at Kirk Freeport we were, quite frankly, thrilled.

Caribbean chic meets Hawaiian spirit (the name itself is a clever blend of the two), Cariloha harnesses the magic of self-replenishing, organically grown bamboo to create super soft fabrics that are not only gentle on the skin but great for the environment too. Hypoallergenic, twice as soft and 3 degrees cooler than cotton, bamboo is biodegradable, renewable and happily grows without the use of pesticides or fertilizers, making it one of the most eco-friendly resources on the planet!

Intrigued, we went behind the (bamboo) screen (pardon the pun) to see what Cariloha was all about. It’s an interesting story. Like any successful company, it starts with passion, commitment and the willingness to experiment. Initially a retailer of island leisure products (think watches, purses, sunglasses), the CEO soon realized something wasn’t right – customers weren’t connecting with the brand – so he went rogue. Bamboo here we come – he did a test run of 5,000 t-shirts and within 2 weeks they were sold out. Soft, cool, clean and green became their motto and 10 years on Cariloha is leading the way for the sustainable retail experience.

When you’re next out and about in George Town, stick your head in to Cariloha Grand Cayman on Cardinall Ave. They have a great showroom with lots of goodies to touch and feel. From ridiculously soft bath sets to stylish linens and apparel perfect for lounging in, this exclusive retailer is the go to purveyor of natural elegance. We love their beach blanket in onyx for an added touch of surfside glam this summer.

Fun fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to four feet per day. The next time you’re in the market for some retail therapy, save some trees and go bamboo.

(Editor’s confession: last minute gifts from here have been known to get me out of bind. Check out their sleepwear for an easy win.)
