What is Wellness?

Wellness is the act of practising healthy habits on a daily basis in order to find physical and mental health. Wellness allows us to thrive in our lives, to be present with our family, work and community.

Why is Wellness so important?

Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is important so we have a great quality of life. Every action we take and every emotion we feel connects to our well-being. With the current global pandemic and our daily “to-do” lists, we need to learn to manage stress, reduce the risk of illness and find a connection to self in order to have optimal wellness and health.

Meditation, yoga and mindfulness

Meditation, yoga and mindfulness have been around for centuries, yet we are still learning all the great benefits they can provide for us. They are a holistic and easy way to rebalance our energy and to come back to our centre so we can create a sense of wellbeing.

When we meditate on a regular basis, we can see and feel immediate benefits in our health and wellbeing. Stress starts to melt away and we connect with ourselves which helps us focus and brings more self-awareness into our daily life.

Meditation also helps create space by decluttering the thoughts in your head and helps anchor us into the present moment so we can make better choices for ourselves, our families, and the community.

Yoga is an ancient practice that brings together the mind and body. The breathing techniques, meditation and poses help you find relaxation, reduce stress and promote focus and awareness.

Yoga helps with flexibility, building muscle strength, correct posture, increases your blood flow, boost your immune system, improves your balance, connects you with inner guidance and help regulates your adrenal glands…just to name a few!

Although you can find mindfulness through the practices of meditation and yoga, it’s in a category of its own. Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of our surroundings and what we are doing at any given time during our day. We all have the ability to be mindful and to bring awareness to anything we do, including washing dishes, going for a walk, driving to work…you get the idea!

Most of us live in world of sensory overload, there are too many things going on, we are multi-tasking constantly and we lose track of how we feel and what we are doing. You can find mindfulness through mindfulness meditation or by just bringing awareness to whatever you are experiencing in the present moment. It’s a powerful practice that helps you relieve stress and to tune into your emotions, body and mind.

There are some great wellness events going on in Cayman that we wanted to share with you. Time to get zen.
