People assume a new email address means a painful afternoon of moving everything across. It doesn't. Here is how a personal address actually comes together, start to finish.
1. Claim your name. Check whether your name is free and secure your address. This is the bit that matters most, so take a moment over it - a clean, memorable address is yours for the long term.
2. Pick a plan. Monthly if you like to stay flexible, yearly if you would rather pay once and forget it. Either way there is no lock-in, so nothing here is a big commitment.
3. Connect the inbox you already use. This is the part people brace for and it turns out to be the easiest. Your personal mail can land in the same place you already read everything - the app you know, the layout you know. Nothing to relearn.
That is genuinely it. No exporting fifteen years of old mail, no forwarding maze, no weekend lost to settings. Five minutes, and your personal life has its own front door.
If you ever want to move on, you can. Your address and your data are portable, so you are never trapped. But most people find that once the line between work and life is drawn, they simply stop thinking about it - which is rather the point.
